You got talent? - Aug. Social

For this month's social, we want to see your hidden talents! We will be having a talent show, and you will have 5 minutes max to perform your talent to your live audience. If you don't want to share a talent, you can write a Haiku poem to share! If you'd like to perform a talent AND recite a poem, you are more than welcomed to. Dale, our Rotary advisor, will be the judge. Here is a note from our social chair, Bennett:

Hello Rotaractors!

It is my distinct pleasure to announce our next (virtual) social event on Thursday, August 20th at 7:00. We will be hosting our very own talent show AND haiku contest via Zoom. Bring your amazing talents and faces for a wonderful evening of mind blowing skills, entertaining tricks, and hopefully some soulful poetry. We will conclude the evening by sharing haikus to be judged by our very own mentor, Dave! The winner(s) will win a mystery prize (a surprize). For those wondering what a haiku is, it is simply a 3 lined poem with the first and last line having 5 syllables and the second line containing 7 syllables. A haiku can also contain 3 syllables in the first and last line and the second containing 5. There is no need to rhyme and we encourage creativity! In addition to haikus, we have deemed original limericks acceptable.

Regarding the talent show, everyone will have up to 5 minutes (with some exception) to perform whatever talent they would like to share. Below is a short list of possible talents to help inspire:
Puppet show, play a song, famous speech, slam poetry, skits, science experiments, juggling, yo-yo tricks, jokes, story telling, fun facts, monologues, rap a Dr. Seuss book, shadow animals, give yourself a tattoo.

Below are a few examples of haikus:

Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense
Flibbity glip glorp

Over the wintry
Forest winds howl in rage
With no leaves to blow

Mosquito lands on
My face, I try to slap her
But I just slap me

In a pouch I grow
On a southern continent
Strange creatures, I know
